Financial awareness: the Altersvorsorgedepot
Rubin BashaOne should be financially aware, that is at least what I have my ears and eyes open towards often. I heard of a product today that I think is worth sharing. It concerns people living in Germany only.
- Product: Trade Republic Altersvorsorgedepot, a state-backed retirement account, launches 1 January 2027.
- Invests in ETFs, funds and bonds for the long term.
- Cost: free, no custody or savings-plan fees; 1 euro per single trade.
- Sweet spot: 150 euros a month (1,800/year) unlocks all benefits.
- State allowance: up to 540 euros a year. Child allowance: up to 300 euros per child per year.
- Tax deduction: the full 1,800 euros a year lowers taxable income.
- Tax-free growth while saving.
- Lock-in: money tied up until 65. Early exit means repaying subsidies and tax breaks.
- Payout starts between 65 and 70; up to 30% as a lump sum, the rest via a payout plan to at least 85 or a lifelong pension.
- Riester is replaced for new contracts.
Not financial advice. Check the official sources before deciding.
