Who helps engineers learn to think?
Rubin BashaAI can explain a concept, suggest an implementation and generate an example in seconds. That is a powerful learning tool.
But learning to become a good engineer is more than getting answers. It is learning to ask better questions, to recognise weak assumptions, to understand trade-offs and to notice when a solution that looks correct is actually wrong.
Those skills grow through practice, feedback, discussion and experience. And they grow when someone asks you why you chose a particular approach, not to test you, but to help you understand your own reasoning.
That is why I think mentorship becomes more important as AI becomes more capable, not less.
We should use AI to accelerate learning. But teams still need to make room for people to develop their own judgment, instead of becoming dependent on the next generated answer.
The goal is not engineers who can produce code without help. It is engineers who understand what they are building, can challenge the output and know when not to trust it.
